Onboarding policy handoffs

New hires need a path through employment rules—not a dump of every PDF ever signed.

Onboarding is often where workplace policy communication reveals its cracks. Veterans know which intranet page is outdated. New colleagues do not. After employment consultations update a rule, the onboarding path must change the same week—or you train people on yesterday’s obligations.

Layer the first ten days

Day one: safety and timekeeping obligations that apply immediately. Day three: collaboration and remote/hybrid norms if relevant. Day ten: deeper benefit and leave processes. Each layer should point to the canonical document without requiring the person to read it cover to cover on arrival.

Managers as translators

Give managers a five-minute script and two examples for the new hire’s role family. That is the same craft we teach in Manager Micro-Brief Studio—short, accurate, interruptible.

Measure handoff quality by whether a new hire can restate the top three obligations for their site. If they cannot, revise the orientation pack before you blame “attention spans.”
